The Palatine hill was a perfect place to stay since it was easily defended and was near the river Tiber. Later the Palatine hill was a popular place in the Ancient Rome among the wealthy and powerful elite. The imperial palace was placed here and at that time it was close to The Roman Forum on one side and the Circus Maximus on the other.
Many emperors lived at the Palatine Hill; Augustus, Caligula, Domitian, Nero, Septimius Severus and Tiberius. Catullus and Cicero is other examples of famous Romans who also had their home at the hill.
